i'm kenyatta cheese. who the hell are you? - part 3.
Facebook doesn't think I'm for real:
I tried registering a couple of times and got an error message suggesting that "kenyatta cheese" wasn't a "legitimate name."
Hooray for ethnocentrism!
While the comedy inherent in having a last name like "Cheese" makes this particular instance of q=facebook+%22legitimate+name%22 really funny, I can see how someone telling you that your real name isn't legit can be yet another way of making you feel left out.
update: In the time since I posted this entry, Facebook wrote back and hand-processed my registration for me. Thanks. Here's hoping that you don't have to hand-register the rather large portion of the world without western names.

We had to rent a car in order to get two shoots done in a day. During the second (Central Park) shoot, we had nowhere to put the car and I was late to a meeting with Ellie. Eventually I drove to Ellie's place and we had our meeting in the car.

random acts of journalism.
We may not want to call ourselves journalists, but when a guy with a gaming videoblog who dresses up as Mario steps up in the midst of chaos, he's performing a service for our entire community and for that, I thank you all.

mobonomics
In trying to describe the circumstances under which digg made the (courageous) decision to publish with the HD-DVD code at the peril of digg.com, I just jokingly referred to their action as an example of mobonomics -- decision making that values the will of the users on par with or higher than the will of yourself. It's not meant to be a negative term, although there is an recognition that you're not the only one in control here.
In another culture, we might call something like this democracy.
