blogs are for feedreaders, reblogs are for browsers.
I no longer read reBlog RSS feeds in my feedreader.
A few months ago, I realized how hard of a time I had reading 20+ reblogged posts a day from a single feed. This is besides the 150 or so other feeds in my feedreader, plus the overlapping 200+ blogs I sift through each day to find stories for unmediated.
Eventually I realized that I didn't like reading posts from sites like randomwalks/dj, artificialeyes.tv, the Rhizome reBlog, or Eyebeam reBlog one by one. I like scanning an entire day's worth of posts in a browser window, watching the entries flow into one another, forming some sort of a gestalt.
This is why I just completed a "major minor" redesign of unmediated. It's formatted for a quick once-over with an expected visit time of four minutes or less. There are del.icio.us/url/ links for each reblogged post (FeedBurner-sourced posts aren't working right but I'm working on that), higher contrast css tweaks for legibility (big help from tricia & cally), and an index of "recent posts" at the top of the page.
I'm calling it my "What Would George Read" redesign.
I hope it helps.
