Is it me or do Apple laptop power adapters suck? Last week I had a seven month old powerbook AC adapter fray at the receptor end and stop working. I had to scramble around LA looking for a replacement. The one pictured here (about a year and a half old) started making a whomping sound and when I leaned in to listen to it it sparked and the end broke off. I've gone through four Apple adapters in the past two years. Soon I'll be saying hello to #5.

My brother is pretty happy with his 3rd-party replacement for his iBook. If you're interested in going off-brand, I can find out the make and model for you.

This happened to the original adapter that came with my TiBook. It was the "innie"-style, and frayed in about the same spot. This was after almost 3 years of heavy use and the titanium hinges both cracked not long after, so I don't feel so bad. I'm considering removing the screen altogether an turning it into a flat desktop machine.

Sure, George. Pass the info along (I'll IM you.) This has happened to a bunch of other adapters @ Eyebeam as well so I think I'm just going to pick up a bushel of them.

The hinges failed on my first TiBook as well. Yury Gitman wanted to turn it into a bike-mounted electronic sign but I never got around to giving it to him.

I need to unearth that thing.
