google searching 'nba finals 2004 anticlimactic western conference lakers minnesota'
what happened to all of those articles i saw proclaiming the lakers-twolves series "the real finals"? how the east was just lucky to be invited to the playoffs? can't seem to find them, but i know they're there.
or maybe that was just tricia talking trash again.
:)

where i discover mp3blogs a wee bit late....
i've been checking out mp3 blogs a lot lately. this all started back when i wanted to hear a bit of the madvillian album before i went out and dropped $15 on the disc. (which i loved so i did plus another $50 on assorted other finds.) most of the stuff i've found on mp3 blogs is independent and so far, no one's suing no one which is good news for the labels. b/c unlike any formal marketing out there, the mp3 blogs are getting me to buy shit. that said, here's my shortlist:
christopher porter / fluxblog / mystical beast / cocaine blunts / catchdubs / dream chimney / scissorkick / moistworks

Halcyon moved to DUMBO?
reading apartmenttherapy today when i come across the news that halcyon has moved to DUMBO. wha? when? how?
i mean, yeah it's been years since i lived in cobble hill and i stopped getting coffee there after it got so... you know.... halcyon.... (still bought their records, tho) but shocked i was. next to the noodles with shrimp at joya, the community bookstore on court, the almost-a-model guys at bagel world, and the incredibly ugly ass condos on the corner of warren and smith, halcyon was one of those things that seemed very cobble hill to me. but i'm in dumbo now (well, working there, anyway) so perhaps i'll stop in for an espresso and a 12 inch sometime soon.
sorry to see them move, hope they're doing well.

godzilla attacks the independence day after tomorrow.
tried to cure a bout of insomnia the other night by going to a midnight showing of the day after tomorrow. the fact that it was the same movie as emmerich's independence day (or godzilla for that matter) didn't seem lost on a lot of people. if i can find a decent bootleg of all three flicks, i think i might try a phantom mashup of the three.
i think audiences should be allowed to remix hollywood movies. if so, i'd probably go see them a lot more often.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Big
A post today on thep2pweblog had me a bit confused. Check it:BigChampagne conducted a research to measure the the quality of files residing on the FastTrack Network (Kazaa). The results were not surprisingly different from what most would guess: more than 80% of music files for pop artists like Jay-Z (88%) and Jessica Simpson (76%) are good—in other words: you can easily find the complete song with CD-quality.What I don't get is... doesn't BC (who i've heard is a good bunch of folks) or it's sister company make its living by flooding the p2p nets with this stuff?

diversity of media choices my ass!
i just went looking for an alternate recap of game 1 of the nba finals and found that yahoo, cnn, and fox sports were all running the same exact ap wire story. what does the front end matter if the back end's all the same.

good folks in newsweek
a bunch of loco locals get props in the latest edition of newsweek:
first, yury gitman gets the cover story money shot (available in the print edition, not on the web) that makes him look like spiderman, riding his bike on a rooftop in manhattan. next up is mike frumin and a brief mention of geourl (j schacter) in a piece on geocoding. and finally there's a nice profile of anthony townsend in a rundown of wireless pioneers. nice.
