the 2004 ces show.
every january i lament the fact that no one will pay to send me to the consumer electronics show in las vegas. not b/c i have some need for a lap dance but b/c i believe that community media organizations shouldn't be looking for warez at pro teevee conventions. the consumer gear is getting just as good as the pro schtuff, and more importantly, if you want to know where media distribution is heading (isn't that the point?) you've gotta look at what sony and philips are doing b/c it's going to have a greater impact on a distributor's livelihood than acquisition formats will. this TV sh!t is about to change big and people have to start reading the signs. so although i didn't get to go, i've been following the blogs of several folk who did get to go, and this is what i found indicative:philips announces a TV that streams content from the web.
morgan freeman is releasing a first run film online.
while siemens announces the st60 videophone for europe, samsung gets closer to releasing the sch-v410.
ViXS introduces wireless HDTV.
Linksys releases a wireless DVD player.
sony releases a tv that receives it's signal via a wifi connection to a base station.
all of our content is getting networked and that's just the easy part. :)
